Artist’s Statement

Inspired by my father's passion for drawing and painting and my mother's love for music, I have been close to both painting and music since childhood. Under my father's guidance I learnt free hand as well as various drawing techniques. Number of years ago I was introduced to paintings in which sand was used as a medium. Having worked with sand, I have discovered a new creative side of me and have developed a lot of patience and discipline.

This was my second piece of colored pencil work. I was searching for a good subject matter while drinking a cup of coffee. I had to do a piece which was based on love theme and cup of coffee gave me the idea of cafe coffee.

Buddha

Route 1 has some amazing colours of Gray sand. When I started collecting those gray sand and when I kept it next to each other the Colours were flowing and that gave me the composition and the title.

Work depicts a journey of young girl who fights against all odds ( represented by grill in the background) and her illuminating face shows the victory, and the pain is melting away which is represented by the running water.

This was a fun composition. Vibrancy and transparency combine in this work. Paper strips have hidden messages and names of my classmates added to have some fun while making the work.

Mi Amor

This is a very special painting as it represents love between a couple. Water ripple shows all the ups and downs of life, and the closeness shows how love stays strong in every situation.

Gossip

Thought behind the painting is when there are more than two friends, Gossip is bound to happen. Earthen colours inspired me to try this different composition.

Mesmerizing

I have been wanting to capture beautiful eyes and the colors of peacock feather from a long time. Colored pencil gave me the vibrancy and control at the same time. This piece was selected in Colored Pencil Society of America and that opened the door of mesmerizing world of colored pencil.

This is a special piece to me as when I was working with the Buddha sculpture, my little one was around one and half years old. I made her walk on this painting to grab her footsteps. This work has become precious for me after that.
